Susanna Kaljur filed nomination papers and is pleased to announce that she will seek re-election as Union Bay Improvement District Trustee in the upcoming election April 22, 2017.

Susanna Kaljur:

As a Union Bay landowner for the past 17 years and Trustee for six months, work has been slow to meet deadlines. Union Bay today is in a strong financial position to address its water treatment needs in order to comply with Island Health Authority by 2018. UBID has purchased a suitable piece of land for a new permanent water treatment plant, both Island Health and geotech reports have indicated this land suitable in size and location for a permanent water treatment plant with capacity for future growth. As of December 2016 UBID has $1.1 million set aside for water works infrastructure.

While I am supportive of growth and development in Union Bay, it must be done in a transparent democratic manner and remain sustainable. Water is our most necessary and precious resource, it is in the interests of landowners that it remain in public control and operation. Without water our property is worthless. If elected I will make informed decisions as part of a functional Board and honour my commitment to work in the best interest of landowners.

UBID has many pressing issues to address including: developing a capital plan for replacement of aging infrastructure, a watershed protection plan, construction of a new fire hall, and developing an inundation disaster plan (if the dam were ever to break). I urge all landowners to vote on Saturday April 22, advance vote April 11. Rides will be provided to those in need. Our future is at stake.
