The Comox Valley RCMP Detachment Commander, Inspector Tim Walton and Thrifty Foods invite everyone to the Thrifty Foods parking lot at Crown Isle, to grab a hot dog and help celebrate Police Week on May 16 between 11:30 and 1:30. The first 150 people will also get a piece of cake in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. The hot dogs will be free, however donations will be accepted for Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

National Police Week began in 1970 as a way for police to connect with their communities and increase awareness about the services they provide. Community policing is at the heart of Police Week, as it’s an opportunity for police and community members to get to know each other.

‘One of my favourite parts of my job is getting out into the community and having a chance to meet the people we serve’ stated inspector Tim Walton. “I started handing out hotdogs in Whitehorse and always look forward getting out to meet and speak with residents.”

There will be several displays of RCMP vehicles, equipment and tattoos and stickers for kids. RCMP partners have been invited to join as well.
