Members of the public are invited to attend the upcoming Strathcona Wilderness Institute’s (SWI) annual general meeting on June 6, at 7 p.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre.

The evening will include a formal business meeting for annual reports and the election of the 2017 board of directors.

“We hope former and prospective volunteers will come out to hear about the great events, programs and more that we’ve delivered in the past year, as well as learn about upcoming opportunities to support the organization,” said SWI board chairperson Judy Norbury. “Strathcona Provincial Park is an amazing asset for our community, and we hope that people can recognize the importance of the work done by SWI”.

This will be followed by a presentation by Dan Strickland on the Gray Jay Project in Strathcona Provincial Park, with the evening ending with refreshments and a chance to connect with fellow like-minded Park supporters. Dan was chief naturalist of Ontario’s Algonquin Provincial Park 1970-2000, and pursued a long-term study of the Gray Jay. He has come to Strathcona Park to confirm a suspicion that Gray Jays in the US Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island are genetically and socially different from the rest of the North America population.

SWI is a registered charity organization with a mission to inspire awareness, appreciation and stewardship of the natural world through education and participation. It serves as the interface between the general public and the Strathcona Provincial Park.
