Newspaper clippings inspire dance
The Sid Williams Theatre, in conjunction with touring Made in BC-contemporary dance, will feature the acclaimed British Columbia dance company, Dancers Dancing Nov. 1.
Under the artistic directorship of Judith Garay, the dancers will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Courtenay venue.
The production Two, was inspired by that very number. Garay started cutting pictures out of newspapers featuring two’s. When she had enough photos, she began to group them in subject areas, politics, sports and fashion.
Then she began creating movement based on these pictures. The production is about people, and as Vancouver Sun columnist Kevin Griffin says, “their endless variety and diversity of movement.”
More than 21 newspaper articles from Vancouver, Nanaimo and Courtenay have praised Garay and her company for their energetic presentation and creative expressions.
Following the performance, there will be a question/answer period with the choreographer as well as the dancers.
Tickets on available at the Sid’s box office. Call 338-2430.
