Comox Valley RCMP report continuing thefts from vehicles

Comox Valley RCMP responded to the following incidents between July 11 and 17:

* Between July 11thth and July 17th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to 16 calls for theft from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles included license plates, backpacks, GPS units, wallets, Jewelry, change/cash, cellphones, a garage door opener, cycling repair items, keys, glasses, registration papers, and a bike rack. The Comox Valley RCMP is asking that if this occurs to you, please report it, so the crime statistics can be as accurate as possible, but please lock your car doors.

The majority of these thefts can be deterred, simply by locking your doors and not leaving anything of value in your vehicle.

* From July 11th to July 17th, the Comox Valley RCMP received nine reports of stolen bicycles. The following bikes are still outstanding:

July 11th – Silver and black Trek 21 speed (2017-9422)

July 11th – White North Rock SCW women’s bike (2017-9448) July 13th – Black Kona Lava Dome 24 speed Mountain Bike July 15th– Metallic blue Transition Klunker, described to have red rims, a DCC sticker and Cumberland Brewery sticker.(2017-9671 July 15th— Black Kona Shred mountain bike with green stripes, green handle grips and a torn up seat. (2017-9705) July 17th— Grey Pipeline Rocky Mountain Bike with yellow lettering (2017-9778) July 17th—Black Montague mountain bike, customized full size mountain bike with folding frame (2017-9789)

July 17th—Black Giant AC2 mountain Bike (2017-9806) The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind bike owners to record the serial numbers of bikes. With the serial numbers, the bikes can be entered onto the RCMP computer system. This will aid in getting your bike back to you if it is located.

* A break enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on July 11th. A locked compound, located on the 600 block of Anderton Road, in Courtenay, had been broken into and fuel was stolen from a storage tank. (2017-9414)

* During the early morning hours of July 13th, the manner in which a vehicle was being operated had caught the attention of a Comox Valley RCMP constable. A traffic stop was conducted, and an impaired driving investigation was quickly initiated. It was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-9539)

* A residential break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on July 13th. The residence, located on the 3000 block of High Salal Drive, Hornby Island, had been entered sometime in the previous six days. Electronics and alcohol were stolen. (2017-9573)

* On July 14th, the Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a theft that occurred from a secured railway box, near a railway crossing in Royston. Two males in an older, silver two-door car were witnessed taking a battery from the secured box at approximately 2:10 pm. The Comox Valley RCMP are looking for any witnesses, that may have been around Royston Road and Highway 19a on this date and may have seen anything suspicious, to call 250-338-1321 and cite file number 2017-9624.

* A theft of potted trees was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on July 15th. The Japanese Maple trees in ceramic pots, had been stolen from a residence located on the 1200 block of Gunthrie Road, in Comox. The theft had occurred sometime overnight. (2017-9673)

* A report of a possible impaired driver was received by the Comox Valley RCMP on July 16th. Patrols were conducted and the vehicle was located. An impaired driving investigation was initiated. It was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-9727)

* A stolen vehicle report was received by the Comox Valley RCMP on July 16th. The yellow, 2003 Mazda Protégé was parked on the 1500 block of Cliffe Avenue. The vehicle is described as a four-door bearing British Columbia Licence plate DV187G. If you see this vehicle, please contact the Comox Valley RCMP and cite file 2017-9729.
