The Canadian Military Wives Choirs (CMWC) will perform at the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 opening Ceremony at the Air Canada Centre on Sept. 23.

The voices of approximately 200 military wives, and current and formerly serving Canadian Armed Forces members, will come together from 10 CMWC choir chapters from across Canada to perform at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games 2017.

The choir will be performing with soprano Laura Wright.

The Military Wives Choirs movement began in Canada in the fall of 2013 in Ottawa, and was based on the tremendous success of the Military Wives Choirs movement in the United Kingdom.

In this short amount of time, the group has grown from 14 ladies arriving at the inaugural rehearsal to nearly 250 members coast to coast across Canada at 10 Canadian Forces bases.

The Canadian Military Wives Choirs – Comox was formed in January 2015. Since then, we have steadily worked towards our goal of establishing and maintaining a group that can provide a supportive network for female military spouses, mothers of military members and female service members.

Many members had no singing experience nor did they read music prior to joining the choir.

Comox currently has a group of 33 women who are at the ready to support each other through the ups and down of military life. We are always keen to welcome new members that fall into the above categories into our non-auditioned choir.

We are lead by our musical director, Wendy Nixon Stothert. Stothert is one of the Valley’s most popular choral directors who really supports and appreciates the community building that takes place when singing is involved.
