The Merville Hall Fall Fair is happening Oct. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Holy heartichokes!

Looks like on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m., it is fall fair time down at the Big Yellow Merville Hall. We’ll be celebrating this land of plenty in the Comox Valley with a Farmers’ Market, food stalls, a Kids’ Zone, refreshing refreshments, antique machinery, displays and arts & crafts.

Step up and participate in the amazing and afflatus Tug ‘o’ War, between the Bellibone Black Creekers and Moliminous Mervillites which will happen beside the outdoor vendors at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the final pull at 4 p.m.This will determine which community wins the coveted Golden Gumboot Trophy and the bragging rights to the title of Best Gumboot Community of the Year.

There was a monumental upset last year as those cadgey Black Creekians out pulled the Mervilleoonians to capture the big honour. Will Merville manage to snatch it back this year? All able bodied citizens of the Comox Valley are invited to grab the end of the rope and pull for their favourite town’s honour!

At the fair, you’ll be able to tour the 102-year-old stolen church and the historic manse. Both buildings were dragged onto the site three years ago by a sturdy team of Belgian draft horses. To keep your spirits high, there will be toe twitching, live music on site all day. And don’t forget the old fashioned contests such as sack races, three-legged races and egg-on-a-spoon races.

With the new ring road and one way exit at the far end of the field, there will be oodles of easy, safe parking on the fair grounds. Lots of seats, too, for those who want to sit, relax and eat a tasty snack or meal and have a refreshing drink.
