19 Wing warns residents not to pick up flares and smoke canisters
With the summer approaching, 19 Wing would like to remind the population of the Comox Valley that flares and smoke canisters, in any condition, are hazardous if mishandled.
Do not pick up or retain such objects as souvenirs.
If you have found, or have in your possession, any object that you believe to be an explosive, notify your local police, and arrangements will be made to dispose of it.
The Texada Island Range, situated in the Strait of Georgia off the west coast of Texada Island, is an active pyrotechnics range.
It is used primarily by 442 Squadron search and rescue crews training in the safe and effective use of both high-intensity flares and marine smoke markers.
The Texada Island Range is marked on aeronautical maps as CYA 124M and on marine charts as area W1.
