A 14-year-old double heart transplant patient from Courtenay earned his fifth medal Friday at the National Transplant Games.

Robbie Thompson received a silver medal in badminton. Thursday, he swam his way to a gold medal in 50-metre backstroke and a silver medal in 50-metre freestyle. Tuesday, he captured cycling gold medals in the five- and 20-km distances at the sixth annual championships.

His mother Sue accompanied Robbie to Calgary for the Games.

In 2009, Robbie won a gold medal in cycling and two bronze medals in swimming at the World Transplant Games in Australia.

The Games in Calgary end Saturday (July 21), the 13th anniversary of Robbie's first heart transplant. Robbie and Sue will return home Sunday.
