You can help to free the fuzz and aid special Olympians, too
Local RCMP constable Nicole Hall and military police corporal David Winship will camp on top of Courtenay's Canadian Tire in an effort to raise awareness and more importantly donations for B.C. Special Olympians.
The Courtenay fire department will help hoist the participants to the rooftop just before noon this Friday and then bring them back down Saturday at 6 p.m.
All funds raised will go towards Special Olympics B.C. provincial initiatives, which support 3,900 athletes in 55 communities across the province.
Programs which receive support include:
• Summer sports — five-and 10-pin bowling, aquatics, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, track and field.
• Winter sports — alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, speed skating.
• Demonstration sports — basketball, bocce, golf.
• Long-term athlete development — Active Start, FUNdamentals, Sport Start, Club Fit.
If you are in the Comox Valley this weekend, stop by and offer your support for this worthwhile event.
