Special Olympics BC and the Comox Valley RCMP say $4,810.45 was raised during the 30-hour Free the Fuzz event at the Courtenay Canadian Tire during the weekend.

Const. Nicole Hall of the RCMP and Cpl. Dave Winship of the CFB Comox military police camped on the roof of Canadian Tire to raise funds for and awareness of B.C. Special Olympians.

Special Olympics and the RCMP acknowledge the contribution of: CFB Comox Valley and Comox Valley RCMP, Courtenay Canadian Tire, JET-FM, Courtenay Fire Department, acting Mayor Bill Anglin, Long and McQuade, Union Street Grill, Tim Hortons, Boston Pizza, Applebees, Bouncerama rentals, COPS, Special Olympics BC — Comox Valley athletes, volunteers, and supporters.

"The community support was wonderful," say Hall and Jasmine Allen of Special Olympics B.C.

"We were able to raise funds while also raising awareness of Special Olympics BC," they add. "Both will be of tremendous benefit to our Special Olympic athletes."
