POLICE BEAT: Another week in the Comox Valley through the eyes of the RCMP

Sept. 12

Police received a report of a theft of a BBQ from the front porch of a home in the 1100 block of Edgett road in Courtenay. ( 2012 - 11486 )

A vandalism to a car was reported. The owner reports being away from her home in the 500 block of Stephens Place in Courtenay for two weeks only to return and find the rear plastic window in her convertible slashed. ( 2012 - 11488 )

Vandalism to a fence at a home in the 1800 block of Piercy Avenue in Courtenay was reported. Someone sprayed the fence with graffiti. ( 2012 - 11489 )

A three wheel, electric bike was stolen from the back yard patio of a home in the 300 block of 6th Street in Courtenay. The thief had to rip the hinge and padlock off the post to get into the yard. The bike has a long antennae with a small Canadian flag on it. ( 2012 - 11497 )

A grey Giant STP mountain bike was stolen from a home in the 5500 block of Hughes Road in Courtenay. ( 2012 - 11499 )

A hit and run was reported by a lady who had her vehicle sideswiped while in the parking lot at North Island College. Thankfully a witness provided a vehicle description and licence number of the suspect vehicle. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11500 )

A theft of a computer and an iPod was reported to the RCMP in the 7400 block of Central Road on Hornby Island. The items were in a trailer at the time of the theft. ( 2012 - 11504 )

A report of a suspicious vehicle in an alley near the 700 block of 6th Street in Courtenay was reported. Police attended and found an extremely intoxicated man passed out in the truck. The man was taken into custody, as he was so intoxicated he could not care for himself and his truck was towed, as it was blocking driveways. ( 2012 - 11516 )

Sept. 13

A report of a theft was received by the Comox Valley RCMP. The victim reports having his medication and some cash stolen after allowing an acquaintance to stay in his home in the 1100 block of 21st Street in Courtenay. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11517 )

A report of vandalism to a car was reported. The car was scratched on the driver's side door while parked in the lot at Lewis park on the Island Highway in Courtenay. ( 2012 - 11535 )

RCMP responded to a report of a hot tub blocking the road in the 1600 block of Comox Avenue in Comox. Upon attendance it was learned that there were several items on the side of the road and some youths had moved a hot tub off the curb and put it in the middle of the road. The youths were not located and the hot tub was moved off the roadway. ( 2012 - 11542 )

RCMP responded to a four vehicle collision at the intersection of the 4700 block of Island Highway North and Muir road in Courtenay. The investigation revealed that the first vehicle in line made a sudden stop in traffic, to make an illegal left hand turn, which caused a chain reaction. The driver of the first vehicle was charged under the motor vehicle act. ( 2012 - 11547 )

A report of a shoplifter was received from the Whistle Stop cold beer and wine store in Courtenay. The staff reported a man entered the store and was seen stuffing a bottle of wine down his pants and then exiting the store. A vehicle bearing a B.C licence plate was used and this investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11557 )

Sept. 14

A report of a vehicle striking a stroller being pushed by a woman on Ryan Road near the Credit Union was received. The investigation revealed that the vehicle was inching ahead to see past foliage when the woman pushing the stroller came into the intersection off the sidewalk. There were no injuries and extremely minor damage. ( 2012 - 11573 )

Police received a report of a theft of two vehicles from the Courtenay Car Care centre on the Old Island Highway. Also at the same time there was a theft of copper wire from the lot. ( 2012 - 11575 )

Police are investigating three separate reports of break and enters to residences that were reported on Hornby Island on Sept. 14. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the RCMP. ( 2012 - 11578 )

Police received a report from a man who had his windshield smashed while parked at Vanier High school. ( 2012 - 11580 )

A man reported vandalism to his car. The man stated that he parked his car in the Walmart parking lot  at 3199 Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay and returned to find that his door lock had been popped in. ( 2012 - 11598)

RCMP received a call of a hit and run incident in the parking lot at the Real Canadian superstore on Ryan Road in Courtenay. The woman reports receiving a licence number from an identified man of the car that did a minor scuff/scratch on her car while it was parking. ( 2012 - 11601 )

Sept. 15

Police responded to a report of a mischief to a car on the 1800 block of Fitzgerald Avenue in Courtenay. The woman reports seeing a man walking along Fitzgerald Avenue and he kicked the passenger's side mirror off of her car. ( 2012 - 11613 )

Police attended to a report of a mischief to a door at a home in the 400 block of Windslow Road in Comox. The owner of the home reports that a young man known to him, came to his home and kicked the front door, doing some damage. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11631 )

The RCMP attended a collision on the Island Highway 19A near Merville. The driver reports swerving to avoid hitting a bird and drove his car down an embankment, causing severe damage to the car,  no injuries reported. ( 2012 - 11640 )

A report of a theft was received from a man who had been staying at a residence in the 3200 block of Windermere Avenue in Cumberland. The man reports that someone had stolen his Blackberry Playbook. ( 2012 - 11641 )

Police received a report of a theft from a truck on the Duncan Bay Main near Mount Washington. The owner reports that he went off road on Sept. 13 and when he returned on the 15th, he found his bumper and rear plate gone. ( 2012 - 11647 )

In the early-morning hours, the RCMP responded to a call of a woman being assaulted at a home on East Ryan Road in Courtenay. The investigation revealed that a man attempted to strangle the woman. The man was arrested and was held in custody for a court appearance. ( 2012 - 11652 )

The RCMP responded to a report of a woman cyclist being struck while crossing the road at Ryan Road and Puntledge Road in Courtenay. The investigation reveals that the cyclist ran into the side of a car turning onto Ryan from Puntledge. The car was inching forward and the cyclist ran into the side of her car. No charges were laid and there were no injuries or damage. ( 2012 - 11654 )

The RCMP stopped a small car for speeding  and crossing a single solid white line. The driver was found to be prohibited from driving and was arrested on scene. The car was also found to have no insurance, the driver had open liquor in the car and had the wrong plates on the car. The driver was charged for these offences and had the car towed. ( 2012 - 11664 )

Police responded to a report of a possible assault at a home in the 700 block of 6th Street in Courtenay. Upon attendance both parties were found to be intoxicated and no assault had taken place. Both individuals were found to be on court orders of no alcohol and were arrested. ( 2012 - 11669 )

A report of an assault was taken by the Comox Valley RCMP. The woman had bruising and fresh scrapes but was not forthcoming as to how she received her injuries. The man believed to be responsible was located and arrested for assault. He was held until sober and the later released for a court at a later date. ( 2012 - 11671 )

Sept. 16

RCMP responded to a call of an assault at a home on Cotton Road in Courtenay. Upon attendance it was learned that a woman had been beaten up by her boyfriend. The man was arrested and held in custody for court. ( 2012 - 11672 )

The RCMP responded to a report of mischief in the 3600 block of Royal Vista Way in Courtenay. It would appear that someone was throwing cement bricks off a building at that location. An awning was damaged. ( 2012 - 11680 )

The new Thrifty Store, which is to be on Ryan Road at Lerwick Road, was broken into overnight on the 15th of September. During the break-in there was also several thousand dollars in damage caused throughout.  This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11686 )

The Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a 13-year-old boy holding a knife to the throat of another 13-year-old. The incident happened in the Cumberland area and all are known to each other. This investigation is continuing.  ( 2012 - 11698 )

Sept. 17

The RCMP received a call for help from a woman on Fitzgerald Avenue in Courtenay. The woman stated that she was locked in her bedroom and the lock mechanism fell into the hallway and her door would not open. Police entered the residence and fixed the lock, enabling the woman to get out of her bedroom. ( 2012 - 11711 )

A report of vandalism to a school was reported. Unknown culprits spray-painted graffiti on the walls of the Miracle Beach Elementary school for the third time this year. ( 2012 - 11714 )

A report of a theft from a vehicle was called into police. The vehicle owner stated that he was at the Mount Washington sports centre when the theft of his laptop computer took place. ( 2012 - 11715 )

The RCMP received a report of a break in to a locked workshop at the base of the Mount Washington ski area. A welder and a two jugs of gas were stolen. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11717 )

Police attended a collision at the intersection of 14th Street and Fitzgerald Avenue in Courtenay. Through investigation it was learned that a vehicle had driven through a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. A charge of Failing to Stop at a stop sign was laid. ( 2012 - 11720 )

A break , enter and theft at a home in the 400 block of Urquhart Avenue in Courtenay was reported to police. The culprit stole a watch from the home. ( 2012 - 11729 )

The Comox Valley RCMP responded to a call of a young female being assaulted at Village Park in Cumberland. It was reported that another young female hit the first with a liquor bottle in the head, followed by some punching and kicking while she was on the ground. Both parties are known to each other. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11746 )

Sept. 18

The Comox Valley RCMP were working in the school zone on Lake Trail in Courtenay. It was just after 10 a.m. when they stopped a vehicle for speeding. Not only was the man speeding, he had also been drinking and had open liquor in the car. The driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days as  a result.
