Six awards announced in memory of late Comox councillor

The inaugural Ray Crossley Town of Comox Youth Achievement Awards were presented by Comox council last week, with six individuals recognized for their accomplishments within the community.

The awards were created by Coun. Hugh MacKinnon to honour the former three-term councillor who passed away more than two years ago.

"It recognizes somebody who has had extraordinary contributions to the community," MacKinnon explained in October.

Carly Brenneman, a world-ranked snowboarder; Trent Freeman, music award winner; Darcy Sharpe, national snowboard slope-style team member; Cassie Sharpe, Canadian freestyle half-pipe national team member; Noah Lewis, Osler Shield winner from Highland Secondary; and Martin Reader, Olympic beach vollyball player; were honoured with a framed certificate and town pin.

Matt Leduc, a national ski cross team member, will be presented with an award in January.
