It's a win for YANA, and a win for one lucky Christmas Cracker holder this year, as the annual fundraiser is being touted as a "massive success."
Anita Brassard, executive director for You Are Not Alone — a Comox Valley organization that helps local families who need to travel to access medical treatment for their children — said this year's cracker campaign sold out with 5,000 crackers distributed, raising $12,500.
"We're still waiting for the lucky winner to reveal themselves," she noted.
The crackers, which sold for $2.50 each, contained 50 prizes hidden within, with a main prize of a white gold solitaire diamond ring valued at $2,400.
Another YANA fundraiser at this time of year is the Driftwood Mall Christmas Tree Auction.
Individuals, families, businesses and organizations decorate trees that are on display for two weeks at the mall.
"The event was very well attended, and the trees were absolutely beautiful," said Brassard. "The families and businesses did an amazing job."
Although the final numbers aren't in, Brassard said the event was a success.
Looking ahead to the new year, Brassard added the annual YANA auction is scheduled for March 8, with more information and tickets to be released in January.
