Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a young Courtenay woman was struck by a motorist on Comox Road, sometimes referred to as Dyke Road.

The victim suffered extensive injuries and she has since been airlifted from St. Joseph's General Hospital.

"The road has been closed between 17th Street bridge and Glacier View Drive and will remain closed until all evidence gathering has been completed. We would like to thank the traveling public for their patience." said Const. Nicole Hall of the Comox Valley RCMP.

The road was reopened just after 11 a.m.

An RCMP traffic analyst, collision reconstructionists, RCMP forensic unit, the canine unit and all available resources are working together to determine what happened and who is responsible.

Anyone with information is being asked to please contact the Comox Valley RCMP at (250)338-1321.  Should the caller wish to remain anonymous they can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
