Prolific offender arrested
The New Year brought with it a very busy time in the Comox Valley, with a rash of break and enters, and thefts. Numerous businesses and residences were broken into and, on several occasions, items stolen. The investigation by the general duty members, who responded to the initial calls, and the Comox Valley Forensics Identification section, quickly revealed a particular pattern and a suspect was soon being sought.
On Jan. 5, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of fraudulent use of a credit card. This investigation led to the same suspect from the break and enters, and thefts being tracked down. An area was contained where he was thought to be. General duty members, as well as the Comox Valley General investigation section, Police Dog Service and the Municipal Traffic Section responded quickly and after a foot chase, the suspect was apprehended.
Justin Whitter, who was also wanted on four warrants and bound to court imposed conditions, is now facing nine charges including theft, possession of stolen property, fraudulent use of a credit card (x5), resist arrest and breach of a recognizance. Whitter was held in custody for a court appearance on Jan. 6.
