ONLINE FIRST: High-def Olympics coming to Cumberland
Cumberland is welcoming the 2010 Olympic Games right in the village.
The Cumberland Community Schools Society along with Cumberland Recreation will show the opening ceremony on a big screen in high definition Friday.
"It's going to be a really exciting event for everybody," said Dave Durrant, manager of community services for the village.
The event at Cumberland Elementary School starts at 5:30 p.m., and will feature draw prizes, refreshments and an introduction by Comox Valley Olympian Susan Kelsey.
Admission to the event is by donation and all proceeds go to the Community Schools Society.
Durrant said there are a lot of people to thank for making the event possible — including Shaw Cable, Sound Advice, Richard Heyer and Cumberland Elementary.
"We can't thank them enough," he said.
