Comox Valley Ground Search & Rescue were kept busy last week, helping with search and rescue operations across the province.

Closest to home, the team responded to a medical rescue at Battleship Lake on Saturday. The subject was carried out on a stretcher where they were picked up by an ambulance.

CVGSAR also assisted with a three-day search for a hiker that was reported missing in the Jumbo Pass area near Invermere. The hiker, later identified as 52-year-old Louise Baxter, had been hiking with a group of six people, but she and her dog went missing due to the poor visibility in the area.

Baxter was reported missing on Aug. 13, but was located on Aug. 15 in good health almost 28 kilometres from the spot where she had been last seen.

CVGSAR said in a Facebook post that she had been at the 6000 ft. level of the mountain and the area was very remote.

The local team has also been heavily involved in a search for a missing man on Bartlett Island which has recently been suspended.

“The search has been suspended pending further investigation although passive search strategies are continuing to be employed,” said CVGSAR.

The Comox Valley team was involved in planning, while also providing command staff, searchers and K-9 resources.
