One man is in custody after a disturbance on the 2100 block of Tull Avenue in Courtenay Saturday evening.
The Comox Valley RCMP received a call at approximately 7 p.m., of a male with a gun in the area.
“We responded - the emergency response team, as well as the police dog services and negotiators were all called in to put an end to this. It did end peacefully at approximately… 9:30 this evening,” said Const. Rob Gardner of the Comox Valley RCMP. “One male is in custody and at the detachment now.”
Gardner said some residents in the immediate area were evacuated for safety precautions.
Donna Cook, who lives in the neighbourhood, said she had just come home when the RCMP pulled up in front of her house.
“My boyfriend was joking.. he was like ‘what did you do?’ … two seconds later a cop went past our window and he was carrying a rifle out in front of him, and just after that a female officer followed and she had her hand on her sidearm.
“I was actually going outside to tell my landlady at the back what was going on and to maybe lock her doors and I could hear (RCMP) telling people to get back in their houses.”
Gardner could not confirm whether the person arrested is known to police, or from where the 9-1-1 call originated.
