While it may have been an unusual sight at the Comox Marina Monday morning, it’s not the first time members of the Dead Boats Disposal Society have been in the area.

Pulling a barge, a tug was in the area of the marina and Goose Spit along with a crew and K’ómoks Guardian Watchmen Manager Cory Frank to clear the area of as many derelict boats as they can find.

In addition to dead boats, the society was also on the hunt for large marine debris. From Comox, the team is working their way south towards Deep Bay, and then set to meet with a member of Hornby Island Diving, going by vessel to inspect the shoreline, Baynes Sound, Denman, Hornby and Lasqueti islands along with surrounding islands to find dead boats.

They are planning to spend about a week in the area, with plans to return at a later date.

The society encourages anyone who has a vessel in the water and has reached the end of its life to contact them at reportdeadboat@gmail.com or call 250-538-2120.
