To help raise money for evacuees of the British Columbia Wildfires, Roy’s Towne Pub in Royston will hold a fundraiser on Aug. 27 from 1-5 p.m.

Dubbed the “B.C. Wildfire FUNdrazer at Roy’s Towne Pub,” the event will include 12 live music acts (who will perform for 20 minutes each), door prizes, a barbecue and mini games.

“It was the idea of P.K. Tessmann,” said Helen Austin, who is helping organize the event. “She said, ‘we need to have a fundraiser because of all the wildfires going on.’ She put it out there and we said, yeah why don’t we? And Roy’s Towne Pub is so good about supporting that type of thing. It was one of the obvious places.”

According to Austin, silent auction items up for grabs thus far include a hand-knitted cowl and three free nights of dog-sitting.

She likened the event to a “mini festival.”

“It’s just going to be a fun afternoon of music,” she said. “We’re lucky here that all we have to deal with is the smoke, so it seemed like the obvious thing to do to help the people who are having a hard time out there right now.”

Those interested in volunteering at the event can contact Austin at helen@helenaustin.com.

The event at Roy’s pub is not the only fundraiser for wildfire evacuees taking place in Royston this month – Gunnar’s Place K9 Sitting Services and Pet Supplies is hosting a similar event on Aug. 31 from 3–8 p.m., titled “Hot August Nights - Fundraiser for B.C. Wildfire Victims.”
