Parent company Black Press is combining its Comox Valley Record and Comox Valley Echo operations under one roof.

Black Press, the owner of Comox Valley Record and Comox Valley Echo, is transforming the community newspaper model in the Comox Valley by uniting these two iconic titles under one new umbrella.

Under the Record banner, these two operations will merge to become one of the strongest community news organizations on Vancouver Island. The publications will publish under the Comox Valley Record name which will continue to publish every Tuesday and Thursday in print.

In addition, the new merged publication will expand its advertising and news services with a bold new digital publishing platform launching this week.

“We are extremely excited about the direction we are taking with our improved print and digital offerings,” said group publisher Dave Hamilton. “The goal is for us to be the best digital and print community news organizations on Vancouver Island – and we have the editorial, sales, creative and distribution resources to successfully scale our operations.

“While we are elated to move forward with a business model that is optimized for print and digital platforms, we do recognize that Comox Valley Record and Comox Valley Echo have served the Comox Valley well for years with award-winning content that reflected life in the Comox Valley and provided a forum to discuss many important issues in the community.

“We would like to thank all the staff, carriers, readers and advertisers – past and present – for their respective contribution to these two historic brands.”

The new Comox Valley Record will begin publishing April 11.
