First responders spent nearly two hours Sunday searching for a woman thought to have been in the Puntledge River in Courtenay. She was later found well away from the water.

“Her car had been located at the Condensory Bridge, and there was a concern for her safety, so a search was initiated,” Comox Valley Search and Rescue president Paul Berry said.

Police had contacted CVSR around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 17). Swift water, boat, ground and dog teams were dispatched to search in the water and along the riverside. Comox Valley RCMP members, a helicopter and police dogs also assisted.

Berry could not provide further details about the incident.
