Albert C. (Al) Conner, born November 5, Toronto, Ontario, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007.

He was predeceased by his parents. Al is survived by his loving wife, companion and best friend, Joyce (Jo) and his daughter, Shelia D (Shelly) Hornby and her husband, Lorne; grandsons: Barry (Joelle) and Lance (Miriam); great-granddaughters: Alexandra, Merissa and Caitlyn, all of Nanaimo; his sister, Margaret Gibson of Kingston, Ontario.

Al left high school in Toronto to enlist in the Army in August 1939 at the age of 15. Preceeding overseas with the 1st Canadian Division one month after his 16th birthday. Al served in the UK, France in 1940 and took part in the invasion of Sicily and Italy. He returned to Canada via Naples, Italy and New York, arriving in Toronto five years from the day he left. He had just turned 21 the month before. Peace time service, 15 years with the RCAF as a firefighter.

Al was active most of his life with the Royal Canadian Legion, Comox Branch #160 and Cumberland Branch #28. He was active in provincial politics, Masonic Order, BCGEU Union and Comox Valley Shrine Club. As a Shriner, he served as a Circus Chairman for two years, raising funds for Shrine Orthopedic and Burn hospital.

At Al’s request there will be no service. Cremation.
