Archie (Baldy) Rankin

1936 - 2007

Archie passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on May 18, 2007 at the age of 71 after a lengthy illness. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Norma of 49 ½ years and his brother, Maurice; sisters-in-law, Linda Price of Westbank and Pat (Jeff) Rowe of Keremeos; nieces and nephews: David, Shannon, Greg, Michelle and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Alice Rankin.

Archie was born in Sidney, BC, arriving in Courtenay later that year, where he spent the majority of his life. He married Norma in 1957 and apprenticed at Nib Johnstone Motors before they moved to Gold River in 1959. When they came back to Courtenay in 1965, he resumed his career as H.D. Mechanic and supervisor at Timberjack Machines and later as a warehouseman at Crown Forest. He retired early as warehouseman/ mechanic from Russ Nelson Roofing.

Archie enjoyed a variety of pastimes: stock car racing (crew member), boating, golfing, RV-ing and especially the yearly trips to Maui.

He was a Charter member of DeMolay, Courtenay branch, a long time member of the Courtenay Legion and Sunnydale Golf Course. He will always be remembered for his mischievous grin and wide smile.

A very special thank you to Dr. J. Fitzpatrick for his many years of care and friendship with Archie and to all the caring 3rd floor nurses.

A Celebration of Archie’s life will be held at Piercy’s Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 1:30 pm.

A donation may be made in Archie’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation.
