JORGENSEN, Arne Christian Gustav

Dec. 31. 1924 - Jan. 28. 2010

Arne passed away on Thursday morning January 28. 2010 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne-Lise, in Sept. 2004. He will be missed by his daughters Anne-Marie (John), Solveig (Roy), Birgit, Annette and Karen (Geir); his sons Jens Christian (Anne Mette) and Arne Peter (Wenche); 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers Ole and Ejnar; sister Birgit; and numerous relatives in Denmark; and friends near and far.

Arne was born in Skibstrup in Denmark. He grew up on the family’s farm-estate Rosendal. Like his grandfather before him, he became a baker. He was an outstanding tradesman, who put great pride in his craft.

He married Anne-Lise from Norway in 1952 and together they opened a small bakery and milk shop in Denmark. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada.

Arne lived and worked as a baker several places including Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelsey Bay, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto, as well as Sweden and Norway.

He also worked as a cook as well as a baker in several remote logging camps.

Arne opened his own bakery, Arne’s Pastry Shop, on Thurlow St. in Vancouver in 1979 where his specialty was Danish pastry the Danish way.

He became a Canadian citizen in 1985. In 1990 he moved to Union Bay with Anne-Lise, where he retired. He loved gardening, but also found pleasure in reading and music. Arne loved nature with all its wilderness and wildlife. In younger days he enjoyed camping, fishing, beachcombing and travelling. He was interested in history and politics, and kept up with current issues. Arne was a hardworking, friendly and generous man with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed life. He often said: Life is so interesting!

A funeral service will be held at Piercy’s Mt. Washington Funeral Home, Wednesday Feb. 10th at 11 am.
