Aron Gunnar Jonsson

June 25, 1909 - August 4, 2006

Gunnar Jonsson died peacefully on his farm in the presence of his loving family, on August 4th, 2006. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie to whom he was married for over 65 years; sons in law Dave DeLucry, Norman Hiebert and John Molland. Gunnar is survived by his eight children Anna DeLucry (Claude Proulx), Naida Hiebert, Edith Molland, Gordon, Melvin (Janis), Allan, Beverly Anderson (Stuart) and Raymond (Kim); 22 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Family and his farm were the biggest part of his life.

Gunnar immigrated to Canada from Sweden in March of 1929. He worked for Comox Logging, Camp 3, from 1930 until 1944 and then at Central Builders for 35 years until his retirement in 1978. He was an avid 5-pin bowler; crib player & carpet bowler at the Evergreen Seniors and a long-time member of OddFellows/Rebekah Lodge.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Florence Filberg Centre on Sunday, August 13th, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gunnar’s memory to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Ave., Comox, B.C. V9M 1P2 or Anderton Therapeutic Garden Society, Box 1416, Comox BC V9M 7Z9 would be appreciated.
