Arthur Keith Finnie

1926-2009

Keith was born in Windsor Ontario on June 23, 1926 to Arthur and Charlotte Finnie. He has left behind his adored wife, Dorothy (nee Musson) and their four children Lynn (John), Keith (Gloria), Marianne and Doug. Also grandchildren, Ben, Sarah, Thomas, Julia, Peter and Samantha and great grand daughter Anya. Cousin and good friend Dick Bannister (Corinne) Dad’s brother Don (Mary), died earlier this year.

Dorothy and Keith were married on October 2, 1948. Keith spent his entire career working for Bell Canada in Ontario. In the 1950’s he built our first home from the ground up almost entirely by himself with the help of his brother Don and a few bricklayers, a project he said he would never attempt again. They moved to the Comox Valley in 1987. Dad had a passion for a great many things, first and foremost his family. He was a great fan of the space program and has a treasure trove of information and memorabilia. He read the Scientific American and Astronomy magazines and studied the night skies. He was instrumental in starting an Astronomy Club in the valley and built his own telescope. He also was a musician and played many instruments, primarily the piano. He sang Barbershop in a quartet , belonged to the Oakville Citizen’s Band and Co-Val Choristers. Dad decided to take up down hill skiing in his sixties. Keith was a tenor in the church choir and brought the ideals of his faith of patience, love, cheer, and gentleness into every day of his life.

We will miss him more than words can say.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24th at St John’s Anglican Church in Courtenay. A reception will follow in the church hall.
