Audrey Margaret

SHORTRIDGE

1926 ~ 2007

Audrey passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s General Hospital, ECU (Oceanview) Sunday, July 8, 2007 before noon at the age of 80 years after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all who knew an energetic, adventurous and dedicated grandmother who moved from Toronto to be closer to her family and grandchildren.

Audrey is survived by her son Steve (Erin) of Comox, daughter Susan (Stephen) of Australia, her six grandchildren: Kristen, Andrew, Jayke, Holly, Will and Ethan, her brother Jim (Sidney) of Wasaga Beach, nieces Julie and Laurie, along with many other family members in Canada and around the world.

Audrey had proudly served in the WRENS and ultimately wrote a book about her experiences that was published last year. She ventured off to Venezuela as a young woman to live before returning to Toronto where she met and married her Australian husband Kent. Together as a family, they travelled to Australia, the Caribbean and Tahiti enjoying the time with family.

We wish to thank the many people at Oceanview Extended Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital who made this experience easier with their unbelievable amount of caring and support that they showed Audrey. The respect, dignity and genuine affection that she received during her time there is to be truly commended and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Special thanks to her dedicated friend, June, who visited Audrey regularly. We would also like to thank the Comox Valley Hospice Society for helping out when it was needed most.

At Audrey’s request, there will be no service. If desired, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Extended Care Unit, Oceanview, at St. Joseph’s General Hospital, Comox.

“We shall press on regardless”
