Mom was finally ready to leave us on the evening of May 27th after surprising everyone with her strength of spirit, grit, sheer tenacity and her will to prove the doctors wrong. She stayed with us for a precious two more years than the odds were favouring.

Mom’s adventure began in 1928 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on her parents’ farm. She met a local boy in town named Donald Clark and the two of them were happily best friends for life. In 1948, as a young couple, sage advice urged them to ‘go west’. They did so in style riding an old Harley Davidson motorcycle packing only what they could carry and landed in Cranbrook, marrying the same year. Many happy stories ensued surrounding shenanigans on wheels including boisterous weekend trips on the bike back to Yorkton through farmers’ fields and country roads to see their families. A few years later with the anticipated arrival of first daughter Debra Kim, the Harley was sadly retired in favour of a functional 2-door Ford. They built a couple of houses and then the second daughter, Robin Corinne arrived. Life for Mom soon embraced most everything she loved; her two children, six grandchildren (Christy, David, Brendan, Barb, Glen and Kelsey), gardening, baking, dogs, and her soul mate, Don. They had some amazing times together along the way from living in Vancouver to Gold River, including the beloved cabin at Buttle Lake, and then finally retiring to Comox in 1989.

Mom was the most conscientious and caring Mother, Grandma, Neighbour and Friend all rolled up into a tiny, energetic ball with her strong Prairie values, a great sense of humour and consideration for everyone at her core. We will miss her dearly and forever, but understand that she is finally comfortable and at peace cheering on her beloved Blue Jays from the best seat in the house.

There is no service at Mom’s request.
