Bernard Robert Peterson

August 6, 2005

Peterson - Bernard Robert of Comox, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox on Saturday, August 6th, 2005, aged 82. Predeceased by his spouse of 52 years, Helen Mary Peterson (nee: Fraser) who passed away in Qualicum in 2002, he is survived and will be dearly missed by son Rob Peterson, spouse Sheena and children Adam and Katelyn of Comox; daughter Barbara Smith, spouse Murray and children Jeffrey, Lauren and Kevin of Winfield, BC.

Bernie was an active member of the Shriners, Legion and many others over the years. Dad was very proud of his varied and distinguished employment which include the following: Service in the American Military; Police Officer on the Vancouver Police Force; Co-founder of Peterson & Fraser Insurance in Richmond; Co-Founder (with spouse Helen) of Crossroads Travel in Richmond; School Trustee in the City of Richmond; Alderman in the City of Richmond; Adjudicator on Assessment Appeals Board in the City of Richmond; Marriage Commissioner, in partnership with mom (Helen), Dad performed the nuptials for over 3,000 couples in Richmond and Qualicum. Whatever the profession over the years, Dad performed all roles with integrity.

He was an impeccable dresser and a great customer of Moores clothing store. Dad (& Mom) especially enjoyed the company of close friends and dining out. Both Dad & Mom crossed paths with many people over the years and we would especially like to acknowledge and thank the following people for their close and loyal friendship:

Of Richmond - Marie (& Paul) Cunningham and family, Grant, Janice, Cindy, Jordan and Jacey; Of Richmond - Bill & Peggy MacLean; Of Qualicum Beach - Bob & Muriel Wilkinson; Of San Diego - Vern & Mary-Lou Shansby; Of Portland - Enid & Gordon Green.

Dad ( & Mom) moved to Qualicum in the early 1990’s, however, they are best known as “Richmond People” with over 30 years of meaningful contributions to that community.

Dad & Mom, better known as “Bernie & Helen” made a great team and stuck together through thick and thin. Broken hearted since the passing of Mom in 2002, we take comfort in believing Mom & Dad are together again. Dad, you will be missed.

A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held in Richmond in the near future. For those wishing, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. We would like to thank Dr. Howard, the 3rd Floor Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and in-home caregivers, for their kind and compassionate care.
