C. EDWARD (TED) COLE

February 2, 1925 – Oct. 5, 2009


Ted was born in Vancouver, B.C. and attended West Vancouver and Seaview High Schools before enrolling in the R.C.A.F. in 1942. After attending Air Training Program he served for 3 years in England as a pilot with the 420 Bomber Squadron.

Ted married Lucille Flamank on June 29, 1946 in Vancouver, B.C., and joined the Vancouver Fire Department in 1947. They lived in the Kerrisdale area of Vancouver, B.C. where they raised their family. Upon retiring in 1979 as Captain in the Vancouver Fire Department they moved to Ship’s Point on Vancouver Island. At that time he became the Ship’s Point Fire Chief from 1980 – 1986. In 1987 he and Lucille moved to Comox, B.C. whereupon Ted joined the Comox Valley Fire Chiefs Association until his second retirement in 1987. He was active in the Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club as President and in his later years filled many hours with bridge at the D’Esterre House.

Ted was predeceased by his wife, Lucille, of 56 years. He is survived by his daughters Susan Norman (Jim), Sharen Bingham(Bud); five grandchildren, Wendy Jorgensen (Niels), Andrea Bingham (Jonathan), Katie Norman, Annie Norman, Josh Norman; one great granddaughter, Ava and his good friend Pat Schmidt.

Ted passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, B.C. on Oct. 5, 2009 and will be sadly missed by the family and friends he leaves behind. Cremation and no service at his request. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice.
