David Henry Matthews of Courtenay, born in Toronto Aug 31st, 1937, passed away on Sept 3rd, 2017. Beloved son of the late Fredrick and Evelyn Matthews. Beloved husband of Marion (nee Jolly), married Oct. 5th, 1968 in Toronto and moved west in 1969. He was a loving father of Melanie in Courtenay, loving dad, and grandad to Larina (Michael), Ellis and of granddaughter Amanda in Surrey and late grandson baby Paul. Loving dad and grandad to Tracey and Jaime Stodgell and 2 great grandchildren, Logan and Makenna Pedersen, brother to Richard (the late Janet) of Scarborough, Ontario.

Dave was a kindly, knowledgeable, helpful person with a good sense of humour. He was a letter carrier in North Vancouver and North Delta from 1970 until 1998 when he retired to Courtenay in 1999. He then became an active member of L’arche Comox Valley and assisted in the upgrading of Jubilee House.

Dave and Marion both worked with developmentally challenged persons over the years and worked in the Sonshine Lunch Club (soup kitchen). He loved dogs, music and was a talented pianist. He liked the open road and was a history buff of North America as well he did some gardening and landscaping. He loved animals, fishing and boating with Melanie and his pet dog on beautiful Comox Lake. He will be missed by many.
