David Stuart (Dave)

Union Bay, B.C.

Feb. 26, 1930 – June 9, 2008

Dad passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox with his loving wife and family members by his side. Dad put up a brave battle against lung disease and is now at rest. We are all so grateful for the loving care he was given during his last years by the medical staff at St. Joseph’s.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Bessie McKay, brothers Ted and Sid, and sister Doris Scavarda.

Dad is survived by our devoted mother Shirley. They would have been married 53 years in July. They have 6 children; Debbie (Brian) of Courtenay, Don (Heather) of Courtenay, Brad (Gayle) of Courtenay, Wendy (Norm) of Kamloops, Gerry (Shelley) of Owen Sound, Ont. and Tammi (Ryan) of Maple Ridge; as well as 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

Dad grew up on the family farm and was the middle child in a family of nine. He counted them as his good friends. He is survived by his eldest brother Stan (Carol) who was his constant crib rival, sister Edna, brother Joe (Donna) all of Union Bay, sister Jeanne (Barry) of Courtenay, and brother Bill (Barb) of Powell River. As well as , Shirley’s sister Betty (Bill) of Kamloops.

He is also survived by a very large extended family near and far.

Dad was a logger and a boom man in his early days. Before his retirement he worked for the school district as a custodian.

After his first bout with illness he took up building miniature replicas of well-known buildings around the Valley. His replica of “old Union Bay” (in his own scale) are on display in the former Union Bay School building.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Union Bay Community Church, Reverend Brandon officiating. Reception and fellowship will follow in the Bill Woods Room at the Union Bay Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers donations to the B.C. Lung Association (1-800-665-5864) would be appreciated.
