On Monday evening Derek passed away with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Derek was a quiet person with a kind soul and a memorable smile.
Derek is survived by parents Evelyn and Daryl Wright, brother Colin Wright, brother Curtis (Bonnie), nieces Bowen, Casey and Brinley, nephew Cooper.
Born in Chatham, NB, Derek moved to Comox in 1973. He has lived, worked and played in the Valley since his 1988 graduation from Highland Sr. Secondary. After working for McConochies & Fletchers Furniture Stores for many years Derek moved down the street to help run the family business at Francis Jewellers.
Derek’s passion was sports. He has helped organize teams for local footballers and hockey players for nearly 20 years. His presence on the field, in the locker room and at the tailgate after games will be missed. A team mate like no other. A Celebration of Derek’s life will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 1:00pm at 888 Wing, 1298 Military Row, Comox with Padre Red Hill officiating. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Comox Valley Hospice Society, 2137 Comox Ave., Comox, BC V9M 1P2 or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
