BERNARD, Derek Michel
It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts that we announce that Derek passed away March 1, 2010 at age 33. Beloved father of Cole. Cherished son of Sandra and David Thompson and Michel Bernard and Kathy Burns. Derek will be deeply missed by his brothers Jason (Lisa) Bernard and Adam Thompson and his sisters Erica, Lisa and Ashley Bernard. He will also be missed by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins, his nephews Jesse and Brody and niece Charli and many friends. Derek was cherished by his girlfriend Sarah Elderbloom.
Derek’s family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Comox Valley Funeral Home and City Hall for their compassion and assistance during this difficult time. We thank everyone that touched Derek’s life in a loving way. Derek lived for his son. Derek lived life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, snowboarding and riding his Harley. His favourite times were with his son “Coleman”, either quading or rollerblading along side him on his bike at the skate park.
There will be no formal service. Derek’s ashes will be released at one of his favourite fishing spots with his family present. A "celebration of life gathering of friends and family" will be held at a later date both in Nanaimo and in Ottawa where he grew up. Dates and venues to be announced.
