CLEMENTS

Desmond James

1928 — 2005

Des passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on July 25, 2005 at the age of 77, after a valiant struggle with prostate cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by Elizabeth, his wife of 53-1/2 years, his 3 daughters: Andrea (James) of Comox, Hilary (John) of Toronto, Meredith (Lindy) of Kelowna, son Adrian (Cheryl) of Detroit. Des will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Jessica, Michaela, Vanessa, Jeremy, Russell, Sebastian and Victoria, 2 great-grandsons: Tristan and Marcus and 1 sister Daphne of Niagara Falls.

Des was born on April 5th, 1928 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honor’s from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Over the years, his career took him to 10 different locations, including 2 wonderful years in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, U.K. and eventually happy retirement in the lovely Comox Valley.

He loved his family, a good joke which he told with style, and strumming his double bass in the A Touch of Dixie Band, singing in the Forbidden Plateau Barbershoppers and creating beautiful woodturnings. A very talented gentleman indeed.

In 2002, Des was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal for 7 years of dedicated work for Abbeyfield House (for seniors) in Courtenay, BC.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 30th, 2005 at 2:00pm from the Church of St. John the Divine, with Bishop John Frame officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in St. Andrews Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comox Valley Cancer Society.
