Desmond Reid
August 22, 1936 ~ September 22, 2007
Des was born in Belfast NR, Ireland and passed away peacefully with his family at his side at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 46 years; daughters, Adrienne, Allison (Dwayne) and Ashley; grandchildren: Megan, Brittany, Reid, Chanel, Ryan and Alexandra; brothers, Samuel and David (Anne); sisters: Peggy, Lily, Helen in Ireland and sister, Alice (Terry) in Calgary, AB. He is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Alice; brothers: Hughie, William, Jonathan and sister Nell.
Des moved to Canada from Belfast in 1956 and married the love of his life, Margaret, in Trenton, Ontario on Dec. 3, 1960. Des and Margaret moved to the Comox Valley in 1974 and worked hand in hand to build a successful partnership in many ventures on Vancouver Island and Powell River. Des was a determined, hard-working and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather.
We would like to thank Dr. David Musgrave for his many years of understanding and friendship. We would also like to thank the home care nurses, emergency staff and 3rd floor nurses, especially Paula, Dorothy and Hyacinthe for their unending compassion for Des and his family. His presence will be sorely missed by his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
To celebrate his life an open house will take place on September 26, 2007 from 3 – 6 pm at the family home located at 174 Pritchard Road, Comox, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation.
