Diann died peacefully in Campbell River on Friday, December 5th with her family at her side after a valiant three year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born March 24, 1954 in Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by her father, Robert O. Dobree.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Jack, daughter Tracey, son Luke, and stepson Caleb. She is also survived by her mother Audrey of Comox, sister Barb of Courtenay and sister Jane of Tlell in the Queen Charlotte Islands. She will also be remembered by her adopted Dad, Jack Armstrong (The Codfather), and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends on Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Diann moved to Comox with her family at the age of eight. She attended school in the Comox Valley, as well as in New Zealand as a Rotary exchange student. She graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Education degree and soon found there were few teaching positions available in B.C. so she took a position at Port Clements Elementary in the Queen Charlottes. Before long she met one of the local boys, Jack, and they were married in February of 1986 in Comox. Diann touched the lives of many as a teacher and principal for several schools on Haida Gwaii. With her family she spent many enjoyable summers at their cabin at Cape Ball on the East coast of Graham Island. When the dragonflies return there next summer we will be looking for her. Diann enjoyed cooking, eating, creating in stained glass, organizing and talking. The last two she managed to do with great humour right to the end. She was always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed.
A celebration of Diane’s life, at her request, will be held at a later date both on Vancouver Island and in the Charlottes.
