M./Gen. (Ret’d) Donald W. McNichol passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital, in Calgary on Friday, March 2, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Blessed with his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Lois (nee Stroud); devoted daughters, Suzan (Eric) Olsen and Laurie (Bob) Brown; attentive grandchildren, Trevor Thompson (Jessica Lott), Shawn Thompson, Katherine Olsen, Laura Olsen, Andrea Olsen and Dallas Brown; and one great granddaughter Nora Thompson.

Don was predeceased by his two brothers, Chalmers and Peter.

Born and raised in High River, Don attended the University of Alberta and graduated as a civil engineer. At this time, through summer employment, he was part of the U.A.T.P. # 1 Group. His love of flying drew him to the Royal Canadian Air Force, which became his career for the next 35 years, retiring in 1982. In retirement, Don and his wife moved to Comox, British Columbia but returned to Calgary in 2000 to be closer to their home town roots.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at Building 1000, in Lake Fraser Court of the Bonavista Estates, in SE Calgary, on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 2:00 pm.

Don’s family wishes to extend thanks to the doctors and staff of Unit 59, at the Rockyview General Hospital.
