Douglas Earl Slater

1920 - October 16, 2017

Born 1920 in Pincher Creek, Albert, Doug spent his earlier years in Alberta until he enlisted in 1941.

He is survived by Lois, his wife of 77 years; son Brian (Sharon Roper) of Campbell River; daughter Lynn Adamschek (Lorne) of Merville; 5 grandchildren; Kari (Todd), Curtis (Jamie), Jodi (James), Lisa (Janna) and Daryl (Alana); 9 great grandchildren, Tyler, Rylie, Wyatt, Evan, Jessica, Quinten, Lily, Beckett and Tola; and Sharon (Ted) Yeadon.

Doug was a member of the R.C.E.M.E. overseas, and upon his return to civilian life was a heavy-duty mechanic until 1968. That same year he enrolled in the industrial education program offered by the University of Alberta.

He then joined the teaching staff at F.H. Collins High School in Whitehorse, Yukon, where he taught for 4 years.

He and Lois moved to Courtenay in 1973 where he taught auto mechanics until 1984 when he retired.

Doug was a member of the CV Curling Club for a few years and a dedicated golfer at Sunnydale from 1974 - 2014.
