EMBREE

Douglas James

It is with great sadness to announce the sudden passing of Douglas James Embree at the young age of 65. Doug was born on July 10, 1944 in New Westminister and grew up in Powell River, moving to the Comox Valley in 1970. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marilyn, his two sons Owen (Lisa) and Ben (April), his four beautiful grandchildren Rhiannon, Maia, Hamilton, and Quinntin, as well as his brother Sam, and sisters Dorothy, Kathy and Jackie.

Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach and friend to everyone he met. For 39 years he was a dedicated teacher in the Comox Valley helping kids achieve to the best of their ability. He coached soccer for many years; when his son Owen was young, as well as the girls’ soccer at GP Vanier Secondary School. Doug also coached football for the Comox Valley Raiders football club and when his son Ben was finished football he moved on as a referee right up to the day of his passing.

Doug’s final days were spent doing the things that he loved so much; spending time with his family and working outdoors. He will be loved and remembered as a man with a wonderful sense of humour and one who gave so much and never wanted anything in return.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Merville Hall, 1245 Fenwick Road. If so desired, donations in Doug's memory may be mae to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon
