November 3, 2003

Tuck, Douglas Stuart Nelson

Doug Tuck of Calgary, Comox, Victoria, Thunder Bay, Kingston, and Montreal passed away after a brief illness at Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary on Monday, 3 November 2003, aged 86 years. Born in Vernon, B.C. on 31 July 1917, Doug married Dorothy Girdwood in 1943 and they raised their family in Victoria. He had a long and successful 44 year career with the Royal Trust Company, working in branches from Victoria to Montreal. Retiring in 1979, he returned to Vancouver Island where he dedicated himself primarily to being the ideal grandfather. Extremely active and full of purpose until the end, his last years were spent with granddaughter Jessica and his first great-grandchild, Noah. Predeceased by Dorothy in 1998, and earlier by a brother Richard and sister Avora (Maitland), he is survived by his children: Christopher (Susan), Gregory (Maggie), Adrienne (Allen) Abney; grandchildren: Andrew (Karen) and Stephanie Tuck, Nancy Huffman, and Jessica, Maquinna and Joshua Abney; and great-grandchildren: Noah Abney and Madisyn Tuck. He also leaves a brother Donald and sister Phyllis Burt. At Doug’s insistence, he has been cremated and there will be no service. Memorial tributes however, may be made to the Alzheimer’s or Arthritis Societies of Canada. A devout duplicate bridge player all his life, he looks forward to more and better competition, but with typical skepticism. . .
