SCHARFF, Edith Gwendolyn

1932 ~ 2010


Gwenda Scharff passed away peacefully at Comox Valley Seniors Village on January 8, 2010 with her loving husband John by her side. Gwenda was predeceased by her brother, Bruce and her parents, Albert and Edith Higgs. Gwenda is survived by her husband, daughter Cheryl (Barry Foster) Comox, BC, children Jodie and Joshua, son Bill (Barb) Nanaimo, BC, children Craig, Amanda and Bobbi-Jo, son Bruce (Sonja) Airdrie, AB, children Travis (Tegan) and Chad (Tracy), two sisters Ruth Warren of Abbotsford, BC, Tina Bergwell of Brandon, MB, sisters in law Lois (Matt Osudar) of Brandon, MB and Diane (Keith Laughland) of Cobble HIll, BC, step-father Jack Hutton (Shirley) of Brandon, MB and 15 nieces and nephews.


Gwenda was born in Dunrae, MB in 1932. In her early years she lived in Morris, Winnipeg and Dauphin. In 1946, she moved to Holland MB, where she met and married John in October of 1953. In 1974, John and Gwenda moved to Sidney, BC. In 1987, they then retired to Comox, BC. Over the many years Gwenda was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother. Those who knew Gwenda, know she had an impressive talent for needlework. Gwenda loved animals and especially her two pugs. A private grave side service was held at 2pm on January 13, 2010 at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery, officiated by Paster Ernie Anderson. At this time, the family would like to thank Dr. Swanson, the RCA’s, LPN’s and staff of F Ward, particularly Renee, Darlene, Casey, Erin, Shannon, Connie, Maria, Candice, Sharon, Sarah, Ole, Tilly, Kim, Valerie, Sheila, Vivian, Imelda and the night staff who we rarely got to see for their devoted care. We also would like thank the staff of New Horizons, on the special care unit in Campbell River for the loving care they provided. Gwenda was a very loving and caring lady who will be missed dearly by all that knew her.
