Of Comox passed away at the extended care facility of St. Joseph’s Hospital on March 17, 2006. Edna was predeceased by her first husband, William Shade, in 1973 and her second, Sven Magnuson in 2002. She is survived by her daughter Alvera (Paul) Dubois of Comox and three grandchildren: Rhonda of Victoria, Jason of Ottawa and Jennifer of Jasper.
Edna was born near High Bluff, MB on January 25, 1911 and was raised on a farm near Bagot, MB. She worked in the service industry in Winnipeg and Kenora before opening a tea room in Beausejour, MB with her younger sister, Bessie.
Edna married Wm Shade in Beausejour in 1942 and moved to the west coast in 1945. They settled into a house in Richmond overlooking the Fraser River where she remained until her second marriage in 1978, after which she relocated to east Vancouver. In 1993 she followed her daughter and son-in-law to Comox.
Edna was a practical and independent person who baked, sewed and did intricate needle work into her 90’s. She was unfailingly generous, loving and considerate and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the d’Esterre Centre, 1801 Beaufort Ave., Comox at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 29. A private interment in the Comox Civic Cemetery will precede.
