Elda Beatrice
May 16, 1928 - November 3, 2008
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and nona, Elda Beatrice Slater, on November 3, 2008.
Elda was born on May 16, 1928 in Fort William, Ontario, the youngest child of Frank & Maria Zanette. It was in Thunder Bay that she met and married our father Alex Victor. They were married in 1949 and in 1953 moved to Atikokan, Ontario where they raised their five children. In 1968 they left Atikokan and moved to the Comox Valley where they owned and operated a few local businesses.
Elda was predeceased by her parents, Frank & Maria; siblings: Izolina, James, Veleda, Libio, Aldo & Emilio, her husband Alex and granddaughter Casandra.
Elda is survived by her children: Rory (Linda) of Whitby, ON, Allen of Nanaimo, Bev (Don), Jim (JoAnne), Brian (Karen). Elda was also nona to Kevyn, Cale, Jordan, Tarry, Dylan, Tyson and Logan.
Mom was an avid hockey fan who knew the game inside out and could quote you any stat that you wanted to know and then some. Mom was never one to back down from something she felt passionate about, loved her politics, was a fantastic cook but most of all she loved to watch her grandchildren playing sports whether it be hockey, baseball or BMX racing.
Funeral Service will be held at Christ The King Church, November 10, 2008 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent in Elda's name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
