MACKEY

(nee: WOODWARD)

Elsie Violet

Mrs. Elsie Mackey of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Mr. Bob Mackey, passed away on Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Her family and friends will sadly miss her for her positive attitude and lively spirit. Elsie leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Winnie Schlichenmayer and her family and Dorothy Amero and her family; one brother, Roy (Reita) Woodward and their family; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Woodward and her family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Agnes Woodward in 1971 and 1976 respectively; her husband, Bob in 1982; her dog Sparky; three brothers, Kenneth at birth, Gordon in 1995 and Leslie in 2002; two brothers-in-law, Albert Schlichenmayer in 1989 and Ernie Amero in 1985; one niece, Wanda Woodward in 1987; two nephews, Wayne Woodward in 1999 and William Schlichenmayer in 2005.

Elsie was raised in the Irvine, Alberta area and later moved to Calgary where she became a Recreational Therapist graduating with Honors in 1979 at the age of 56. She married Bob in 1964. They moved to Cochrane and were volunteers for the Cochrane Ranch Site and the Big Hill Senior Citizens Activity Society. In 1990, Elsie received a “Community Builder” volunteer award from the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce. Elsie has always used her hands to help, for work and play. She was an accomplished artisan; working with ceramics, decorating china, needlework, and oil painting. In 1993, she retired to Comox where she continued introducing her “crafty” ways to all she met. Due to health concerns, Elsie returned home to Medicine Hat to be close to family in February 2006 and has resided at Central Park Lodge. Elsie has traveled the world and leaves behind many amazing stories, photos and wonderful friends including Gordie and Kay Hermanns, Howard and Jean Walker and Betty-Jane Harding. Elsie’s mission in life was to help others – and that she did. You could not meet Elsie and not have been touched by such a special lady.
