HYDE

Eric Norman

January 2, 1923 – June 27, 2008

Eric Hyde passed away on Friday June 27, 2008 with loving family and friends surrounding him in his final days. After 48 years of marriage he lost his wife Novella Hyde in 1996. He was also predeceased by his brother Alan Hyde and parents Reginald and Maisie Hyde. He was a wonderful influence in the lives of his children: Karyne Kongo (Marcelino), Sharel Downey (Frank) and Valery Puetz (Bernie) grandchildren: Warren, Amber, Ashley, Sareh, Kisa and Iko Miala and great granddaughter Ella.

He was an active member of the Baha’i Community, an avid bridge player and long-term director of the Duplicate Club, a nature lover and bird watcher. Eric gave of himself throughout his life. He was a blood donor for over 50 years, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, provided transportation to the elderly and settlement assistance with Vietnamese refugees. He made a few trips to Portugal to visit his daughter and family. As long as he was able he enjoyed hiking, biking, swimming, feeding the chickens and fishing at the Comox wharf with his grandchildren.

Eric served in WWII as a navigator and later worked as a meteorologist with Environment Canada (CFB Comox) for which he took the many pokes at weathermen with a smile.

Eric was a caring and generous man who enriched the lives of those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation & Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay on Saturday July 5, 2008 at 11 am.
