Lund, Ernest Fredrick

September 16, 1926 - October 2, 2006

With deep sadness, we announce the death of our beloved husband and father, ERNIE. He died peacefully at home in Courtenay, surrounded by his wife, children and pastor, following a brief struggle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Anna; children: Joanne (Tim) in Courtenay, John in Prince Rupert, Judy in Victoria, Dave in Nanaimo and Lee Ann (Mike) in Pitt Meadows; grandchildren: Jordan, Jesse, Deigh-Anna, Sarah, Laura, Jared, Julianna and Elijah, as well as precious great-grandson Roark. Also, his only niece Brenda and her children: Bryson, Keilly and Brady, and other relatives and cousins across Canada. Ernie was born and grew up in Saskatoon. Following a brief time in the military, he met and married Anna and started a family. Ernie worked for Heinz as a travelling salesman and was fiercely loyal to Heinz products all his life. He began working for Canada Post and continued with them for 28 years, until his retirement. In 1967 he moved his family to Victoria, where he watched his kids grow up. Following retirement, he and Anna lived in Parksville for a few years, before finally settling in Courtenay. Ernie was a kind, gentle, generous man. He was a huge hockey fan, loved camping, travelling, gardening. He dabbled in painting and music in later years. Ernie always remembered our birthdays and went to every soccer game, swimming lesson, recital and graduation that he could. He loved his family and supported all our endeavors, from helping us move, to canning salmon, to building projects! A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00am from COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, Courtenay. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in “The Garden Room and Outdoor Patio” of the funeral home before proceeding to Courtenay Civic Cemetery for interment. For those wishing, donations in Ernie’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102-1509 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 2K6 would be appreciated.
