Ethel Jean

On March 29th, 2008 Ethel lost her battle with cancer and is now at peace.

Ethel was born June 13, 1930 in Victoria, B.C. She worked at Jeune Bros. Tent & Awning as well as the Naden Tailor Shop at CFB Esquimalt.

In 1965, she married Ron and together with a large blended family they moved to the Comox Valley. Ethel loved living in the Valley and had many friends. They enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening. She was an extremely talented seamstress working from her home for most of her life. She also enjoyed sewing for friends and family. She was a long time member of the CoVal Choristers, sewing many costumes for the group, selling tickets, as well as enjoying singing with the choir, which brought her much enjoyment and pleasure. She also belonged to the Brazilian Embroidery Group where she worked her usual magic with her hands, creating many beautiful projects.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Irwin in 1960, sons Eddy and Don, sister Edna and husband Ron in 1989. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Will (Lisa), Bill (Wendy), daughters Sandy (Barry), Lynne (Ken), Teresa (Daryl), Sharon (Gary), Sue (Ted), daughter-in-law Julia, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the 3rd floor nurses at St. Joe’s Hospital for their kindness & compassionate care this last week of Mom’s life. Thanks also to the Home Support team for your special care, the Red Cross for the loan of equipment and many special friends who were so supportive and caring .

A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday April 4th at Piercy’s Mt.Washington Funeral Home, England Avenue in Courtenay.

In lieu of flowers, if you choose to make a donation we would love you to honour Ethel’s memory by asking that they be made in her name to the “Old Church Theatre Society”, P.O.Box 3062, Courtenay, BC V9N 5N3, or the charity of your choice.
